It was a perfect plan: we'd head to Orland with my family to hunt for that perfect Christmas tree. There would be horses and a sleigh ride to take us out for our adventure. We would search and search for 'the one', take it by the trunk, wrestle it down, and drag it to the trailer to be hauled in for its cleaning. All the while, Courben would be laughing and jabbering about the day's excitement; and maybe, just maybe, a little snow might fall.
Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned. Instead of snow, we got rain, but the show must go on. We needed that tree! Instead of hunting and searching, we ended up picking the first perfect tree. Instead of laughing and jabbering, Courben cried and clung. You might think this all sounds like a terrible day, but as our pastor, Mark Beeson, says, "We were making memories." We will never forget these moments because despite our best-laid plans going down the drain, we had fun spending time together as a family!
